EU-funded projects in recycled high-performance technical textiles
Hilaturas Arnau participates in European and international R&D projects advancing circular economy in defence, PPE, aerospace and transport textiles
At Hilaturas Arnau we are particularly proud of our participation in European research and circular economy projects. These projects allow us to collaborate with the most innovative companies and institutions in the sector, developing real solutions for recycling ultra-technical fibers that would otherwise reach the end of their useful life.
UTILE — Recycling end-of-life military helmets and bulletproof vests
A project of which we are particularly proud as a leading company in this field. Within UTILE — a European Defence Fund project — we recycle helmets and bulletproof vests at the end of their useful life through the circular economy. We have managed to ensure that new ballistic panels contain a percentage of fibers recovered from those that are no longer in use — closing the loop on some of the most valuable materials in the defence supply chain.
Our sub-project within the In Transit programme, funded by the European Union. We recycle used firefighter uniforms through a layer-by-layer process — shredding disused suits and manufacturing new fabrics and nonwovens from the recovered fibers, which are then used as insulating layers in new uniforms and for the production of new fireproof products.
RegioGreenTex — Recycled aramid yarns for public transport seating
A European Green Deal project bringing together the most sustainable textile companies in Europe, selected by Euratex. Within RegioGreenTex, we developed a 100% recycled aramid flame retardant yarn for use in public transport seats — demonstrating that circular economy textiles can meet the demanding technical and safety requirements of the transport sector.
Ultra-ReUsTex — Exporting recycled PBO & PBI to the United States
Our latest project within the INNOWWIDE / Eureka programme, co-funded by the European Union. A 6-month feasibility and market entry project to open the United States market to our recycled PBO and PBI technical textiles, in partnership with XPORTA INC (USA) — establishing a transatlantic circular supply chain for the world's highest-performance protective fibers.
We also collaborate with the Catalan Waste Agency (ARC), recycling post-consumer clothing and home textiles, and participate in the Catalan Government's Circular Fashion Pact — which aims to find a new use for all textile products at the end of their useful life and give them a second life.
