HILATURAS ARNAU BARCELONA is carrying out R&D projects based on the incorporation of aluminum into the PBO technical ultramaterial.
The goal is to determine whether this can optimize the properties of this ultramaterial, further increasing its resistance to high temperatures. If we achieve an aluminized PBO fabric, could we reach a heat resistance temperature above 1000 °C...?
PBO is a high-performance fiber with excellent thermal and mechanical resistance, commonly used in flame-resistant clothing and protective equipment.
Aluminized fabrics are normally produced by coating aramid fibers, such as meta-aramid or para-aramid, with aluminum or reflective metallic films to improve radiant heat reflection.
However, no standard product of “aluminized PBO fabric” has been documented.
This exceptional ultrafabric can enhance radiant heat reflection. If the goal is to operate in these extreme ranges, it may be necessary to explore combinations with ceramic or inorganic materials, or even develop multilayer laminates with intermediate barriers.
R&D Project
Study the use of aluminum as a reflective thermal barrier.
Evaluate the behavior of PBO + Al laminates in radiant heat chambers using IR thermography instruments.
Consider hybrid alternatives: combinations of PBO with layers of flexible ceramic materials.
Apply surface treatments to PBO to improve aluminum adhesion.
Simulate end-use environments: molten metal, direct flame, convective heat.
We keep seeking innovative and sustainable solutions!
