RegioGreenTex — Recycled FR yarns for public transport seating
A European Green Deal project strengthening textile circularity across Europe's regions
In the framework of the European Green Deal, RegioGreenTex is a project promoting collaboration in research and development for the textile industry between the four major sectors of society — industry, government, research institutes, and the public — to establish a systematic circular economy business model across the EU.
The project brings together 11 textile-intensive regions across 8 European countries, led by Euratex, to build a dynamic textile recycling ecosystem and support SME pilot projects that accelerate the use of new recycled-content technical materials. We are proud to participate alongside the most sustainable companies in the EU.
Hilaturas Arnau's role: FR yarns for public transport
Within RegioGreenTex, Hilaturas Arnau manufactured the recycled flame retardant (FR) yarns used in seating for public transportation. Public transport upholstery must meet strict fire-safety standards while withstanding heavy daily use — our recycled FR yarns deliver the required flame resistance and durability while significantly reducing the environmental footprint compared to virgin materials.
Circular economy in practice
By recovering high-performance fibers and re-spinning them into certified FR yarns, this project demonstrates that circular textile production can meet the demanding technical requirements of the transport sector — proving sustainability and safety performance can coexist in real-world applications.
